Hey there it has been awhile and I apologize. Mom is doing really really well! Once we got her home she had a few weeks to enjoy being home and then back to fighting to continue the remission prognosis. She is starting her 4th week out of 5 weeks of an arsenic treatment. Unfortunately the first 2 weeks she needed to go to UCSF for treatments … I think we are both glad we don’t have to commute daily!!!! It was a very tiring process. Now however, she has been set up in Santa Rosa for treatments and is able to drive herself. After her 5th week is complete she will have a 2 week break and then another 5 weeks of treatment as well as a re-evaluation of her condition to see if any other steps are needed. At this time there is no talk of her returning for a hospital stay.
While doing the treatments at UCSF we met another mother daughter team going through the process. Natasha, 24 years old that is fighting the same battle as Mom and her mother Nikki. Nikki had us almost wetting our pants telling their story of discovering that Leukemia had entered their life. Natasha… is just plain amazing! She is currently working on creating a non-profit organization to help those families that can’t afford the treatments.
While once again we have been hit by this devastating terrible disease … it has again proven to show us how blessed we are … with an amazing family who was there every step of the way, friends that again came out of woodwork to help in anyway they could, a wonderful medical staff and facility that over and over proved that angels do exists, and new friends that are fighting there own battles but, bring in a new light, laughter, and encouragement!
Thanks again for checking in!
